Texas Christian University | KT & Andrew

I’ve known KT for about 6 years now. We met sophomore year of college because we ended up on the same YoungLife team and spent an endless number of hours together working through how we were going to reach out to middle schoolers in Fort Worth, TX and tell them more about Jesus.

I still remember the first time we met, because KT was from Hawaii and my name is Hawaiian. Our first conversation went something like this.

“Hi, I’m KT.”

“Hi I’m Malia”

“Oh, are you Hawaiian? I grew up there!”

“Oh…No, my parents just saw the name Malia on a game show before I was born and they really liked it…”

And that was the beginning of a beautiful friendship. For real though. Over the next 3 years of college, we became great friends. If you’ve ever met KT you know that she’s probably one of the most genuine, sweetest, yet feisty-est people you know. (Is that even a word? I don’t know, but it’s the only way to describe KT…) She’s so unapologetically herself and aims to love people to the best of her ability. She has a love so strong for the Lord that you just can’t help but be drawn to her – a beautiful Hawaiian goddess as I like to call her. Throughout our college career, I remember talking with her about who she might marry one day. She dated a few guys, but I knew they were never good enough for her. Because someone like KT deserves someone who is greater than great.

Then, the year I graduated and moved away, she met that guy. Andrew. I remember talking to KT on the phone about Andrew. He was the first guy that I could tell might actually be good enough for KT. Unfortunately, life wasn’t so kind to them, because the same year that KT started dating Andrew, she ended up moving back to Hawaii to teach at a high school there and Andrew remained thousands of miles away in Texas. But somehow, they made long distance work, because to him, KT was worth it.

Finally, KT made her way back to Texas (which I still find hilarious because she was always my one friend who told me she would NEVER live in Texas…) And then a few months later, in February, I got a text from Andrew that said “May 18th. It’s going down.”

And it did indeed. I got to travel back to my alma mater and take photos of this beautiful moment. So, here’s to KT & Andrew. I love you both dearly and can’t wait to celebrate y’all!
